Wellbeing project - Community Connect Feock

The Council has committed funding in its 2018/19 and 2019/20 budget to help fund a Project Co-ordinator and

Community Navigator to work on a social prescribing project in conjunction with Kernow Clinical Commissioning

Group, local surgeries and organisations.

We are delighted that our Community Navigator, Sharon Nettleton started in the role on Monday 26th November 2018.

You can contact Sharon by email Sharon.nettleton1@nhs.net or phone 07747 750962.

Here are a few words from Sharon ..........

"I feel very honoured and excited to have been appointed into this new and exciting role, a

first for Cornwall! For the past seven years, I have worked for Age UK Cornwall and the Isles of

Scilly on a number of different projects including Newquay Pathfinder and Living Well, helping

to support and enable older people to make informed choices and live an independent and

fulfilling life. I look forward to sharing my experience with you, but I hope the new role will enable

me to continue to learn more as I meet with people in  the Parish which I’m very much looking

forward to. Together we can help to pioneer and develop a sustainable way for the community

to support and tackle issues surrounding loneliness and isolation, health and wellbeing.

During the next few months, I hope to meet as many of you as possible, so please stop me

to say ‘Hello’. If you would like to know more about the project, (did you know for example

loneliness and isolation has a massive impact on our wellbeing?) have some thoughts,

suggestions, ideas and would like to be more involved, I would love to hear from you.

No idea is too small! If you’re part of a local group and would like me to pop by to meet and

have a chat to the group, please get in touch.

I look forward to working with you and being part of your fantastic community, together

we can make a difference!."

The Parish Council has recently published its third newsletter 'Connect' which all residents

should have received through their letterboxes.  You can download a copy here

The Parish Council is looking to facilitate the bringing together of people and offering new

opportunities for people to want to get out and about. Not only is this good for our wellbeing

but there  are lots of things going on and many interesting things to see on our doorstep.

We have produced self guided footpath trails leaflets (available from Parish Office or downloadable online) The Devoran tramway will take you from Point Quay to Devoran Quay from which you will see many tantalising views of the water. At this time of year, and at the right  state of the tide, you will see amazing numbers of curlew, godwit and redshank. In Feock village there is the Trelissick estate with its carriage way from the Lodge to the House.  This winter the churchyards have been attractive to birdwatchers too with regular sightings of bullfinch, chaffinch, goldfinch and the occasional goldcrest and firecrest.

There are lunch clubs at Carnon Downs, Feock and most recently Devoran offering an opportunity for convivial meeting with friends and neighbours. The Feock Transport Scheme can be used to bring residents who do not have transport to these lunches so people do not need to feel excluded by lack of a car. You can find out more about these here

The Parish Council has now set up a Wellbeing Working Group which is looking at new ways of improving the wellbeing of local people. The aim is to provide opportunities for connecting people and to assess ways of improving facilities in the Parish which will enhance community.
