Penpol Creek Archaeological Dig - Volunteers needed!

Restronguet Creek Society now has funding secured to go ahead with its Penpol Creek Tide Mill Project, following successful grant bids to Cornwall Heritage Trust, Cornwall Archaeological Society, Cornwall Community Chest and Feock Parish Council.

The aim is to excavate the remains of the two centuries old Penpol Mill structure to establish, if possible, how it operated (about which there is currently very little information) and to prepare a report on the findings.

Induction and training for volunteers by Cornwall Archaeological Unit is planned for the morning of Wednesday, 28th August. The dig, with teams of not more than ten volunteers per day, will continue under CAU’s supervision during the rest of that week and the following weekend, subject to suitable weather.

No prior experience is necessary, but if you have skills in historical research, archaeology, photography or surveying your involvement would be particularly useful.

If you would like to be included in a mailing list for further information, with no firm commitment at this stage, please email the Society’s committee member John Bray via secretary@restronguetcreeksociety.org

If you signed up at the AGM then you need take no further action for the moment.
